How to export applicants from Lever to CSV
Lever's documented export is not on the candidate list; it is in Visual Insights, Lever's reporting area, under Exports. The Opportunities export gives one row per application with the candidate's name, emails, phones, posting and dates, and downloads straight to your browser as CSV. The catch is that it cannot be filtered to one posting, so you trim it afterwards.
Steps
- Open Visual Insights from the platform header.
- Click the chevron on the left side of the page to open the side panel, then click Exports.
- In the left-hand panel choose the Opportunities export.
- Set the filters. The available ones are opportunity created date, department, team, origin and source; there is no posting filter. Narrow the date range to the life of the posting, then click the reload arrow at the upper right of the filter bar.
- Click the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner of the table tile and choose Download Data.
- Pick CSV, open Advanced data options, and under "Number of rows to include" choose All results. Without this the file holds the 50 rows shown on screen. Click Download and stay on the page until the file arrives; navigating away cancels it.
- Open the CSV in a spreadsheet and keep only the rows whose Posting Title (or Posting ID) is the job you are screening. Save that as a new CSV.
Who can run it: by default only Super Admins can download exports. Admins and Team Members can if they have been granted the View Visual Insights reports permission with download rights. Hiring managers cannot; ask an admin for the file.
What to know about the file
- Visual Insights data can lag the live system by up to six hours. Applications from this afternoon may not be in it yet.
- One candidate appears once per opportunity. Someone who applied to two postings is two rows, which is exactly what you want for screening one posting and worth knowing if you keep the whole file.
- Opportunities with no posting (people added by hand or sourced) are included. They have an empty Posting Title and fall out when you filter.
- Emails and Phones are plural: a candidate with two addresses has both in one cell. ApplySift uses the first.
What the export does not include
Résumé files. The Files column lists file names, not the documents. The full account export that includes attachments is a separate, Super Admin-only process and is not needed for screening.
Then
Upload the trimmed CSV to ApplySift. The Lever headers (Contact Name, Emails, Phones, Applied At (UTC)) are recognised automatically.
