What the answer means
- VOIP wholesaler. Bandwidth, Onvoy, Inteliquent, Telnyx, Twilio, Peerless and similar carriers provision numbers by API to VOIP apps and platforms. Almost nobody's personal phone is in one of these blocks. In one pool of 1,455 applicants to a remote engineering role, 60% of numbers were.
- Consumer VOIP. Google Voice. Real people use it, so on its own it means little.
- Carrier. A mobile or landline carrier. The usual answer for a personal phone.
- Unassigned. No carrier holds that block, so the number cannot currently ring anywhere.
A number that was ported from one carrier to another keeps its original block, so a ported number can read either way. Porting data is private; this lookup cannot see it.
