How to get applicants' resumes into a folder
ApplySift's optional resume step reads the document properties of each applicant's resume file, in your browser, to find applicants who sent copies of one file. The resumes never leave your computer. To use it you need the applicants' original files (the PDF or Word .docx each person uploaded) in one folder on your computer. This is the hardest part, and it differs by ATS.
Two rules that matter more than the ATS
- Avoid anything that combines resumes into one PDF. A merged or reprinted PDF carries your ATS's properties, not the applicant's, so there is nothing left to compare. Greenhouse's bulk print and Workday HiredScore's bulk save both do this (details below).
- Name each file so it can be matched. ApplySift matches files to rows in your applicant CSV by the applicant's name, email address or application ID in the file name or its folder name:
Jane Doe - resume.pdf,doe_jane.docx,jane.doe@example.com.pdf,910004.pdforJane Doe/resume.pdfall work. Files that do not match are listed on the page so you can pick the applicant by hand. The matching happens in your browser; no name is sent.
PDF and .docx files are read; older Word .doc files are skipped for now. Up to 2,500 files at a time.
Greenhouse
- One at a time: on a candidate's profile, Greenhouse says to click Resume on the right side of the header; the resume is also under Documents in the side panel. Save the file you open there.
- Do not use Bulk Download and Print Resumes: it takes up to 30 resumes and compiles them into a single document emailed to you.
- Through the API (for an admin or developer): Harvest v3's
GET /v3/attachmentslists each attachment with its type (resume, cover letter), its original file name, the application and candidate IDs, and a download link that expires after seven days. It needs an OAuth token with the attachments scope. Harvest v1 and v2 were scheduled for removal on August 31, 2026, so older scripts that used them may no longer work.
Lever
- Through the API: Lever's API lists an opportunity's resumes (
GET /opportunities/:opportunity/resumes) and downloads each file (…/resumes/:resume/download); other uploads are under/files. It uses an API key created under Settings, Integrations and API. - We could not confirm a bulk resume download in Lever's own help pages, so we do not describe one here.
BambooHR
- Through the API: Get Application Details returns the application's
resumeFileIdand a list of attachments, each with a download URL. The person whose key is used must have access to ATS settings. - BambooHR's Export Job Data exports candidate data, not files. Its help pages need a login, so we have not described the on-screen download here.
Workday Recruiting
- With HiredScore: the candidate actions include Download Resume, which saves that candidate's file. The same page says that bulk-saving resumes as PDFs puts them all in one file: avoid that.
- Through the API (for a Workday integration admin): the Recruiting web service's
Get_Candidate_Attachmentsreturns a candidate's or a job application's attachments with their file names and contents, subject to the tenant's candidate security setup.
Paylocity
We found no public Paylocity documentation for downloading applicants' resumes, one at a time or in bulk, and Paylocity's public recruiting API lists published jobs only. The ApplySift extension for Paylocity saves the applicant list but does not fetch resumes today. If you already save resumes from applicant profiles, name them as above and they will work.
Then
Upload your applicant CSV, then use Add resumes under the summary and choose the folder. The page shows how many files it matched, lists the rest, and adds the results as reasons in the same file.
